These industries include media, marketing, player management and coaching just to name a few. Carlton College offers industry seminars and guest lectures for the industry expertise to share their stories of how they got to where they are now, as well as any tips and advice they can offer you to put your best foot forward and leave an outstanding impression.

We asked current student Harry Mulqueen, studying the Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development, about why Carlton College is unique.

“Carlton College is unique because you get to connect and interact with leading professionals in the industry to make the most of your University experience,” Mulqueen said.

Experience

Whether you are studying Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development or the Diploma of Elite Sport Business, you are guaranteed to complete 100 hours of placement in a professional sporting organisation. This will enable you to gain valuable experience, in various industries such as fan engagement, membership marketing, media and much more, that are on offer to give insight on the career path you wish to go down.

Through the networking you do in your area of expertise as well as the course you are studying, it provides an opportunity for you to apply that into practice. Just imagine completing your placement in front of a roaring Carlton crowd at the MCG or even at Ikon Park, the home of the AFLW. You will experience all of these placement opportunities here at the Carlton College of Sport.

Current student Jack Carroll studying the Diploma of Elite Sport Business talked about why he chose to study at the Carlton College of Sport.

“Due to the hands-on experience you get with an elite sporting organisation like Carlton Football Club. There aren’t many courses that allow students to get their foot in the door with one of the biggest sporting clubs in Australia,” Carroll said.

Environment

Imagine studying in a professional sporting organisation rubbing shoulders with Carlton Football Club players and having a friendly chat with head coaches; sounds incredible right?

The learning environment you experience is like no other here at Carlton College. Classes are not like your average university classes.  Class sizes are much smaller and not in massive lecture theatres, which allows interaction and offers all types of learning whether you are hands on or enjoy the theory side of things. Both Diploma of Coaching and Development and Diploma of Elite Sport Business offer your preferred learning style. Studying in a professional sporting organisation is an experience like no other.

Current student Leah Robinson studying the Diploma of Coaching and Development talked about her experience at the College.

“Being from Perth there is not really any course like it here, and the actual experience of being amongst an AFL club and learning about what goes on behind the scenes is really unique,” Robinson said.
