Isabella has her foot in the door of the sports industry, working as the VFLW Operations Coordinator at the Carlton Football Club.

Fresh out of high school, Isabella had a clear idea what pathway she wanted to take in her career. With her sights set on working in sport and a love of the Carlton Football Club, studying at the Carlton College of Sport was an obvious choice.

“I wanted to get my start in the sporting world and was really interested in coaching. I knew that development coaching was something that I wanted to look at in the future. I knew that doing a diploma with hands on experience would help me to broaden my knowledge and help me to make decisions about my future career path,” Camilleri said.

“I also thought that there was no better place to do my studies than in an elite and professional environment at my favourite football club!”

Since graduating from the Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development at the end of 2020, Isabella has been balancing university with part-time work. Continuing her studies in a Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science at La Trobe University, Isabella has also taken up the role as VFLW Operations Coordinator at the Carlton Football Club.

“I’m loving the job so far. The best part has been the relationships that I’ve made with staff and players at the Club. It’s so great to walk into the Club and see everyone, all the players, they love to have a joke and it’s a great environment to be in.

“At the moment, combining my study and my job at the Club has been working quite well. I have two days of study per week, then three days at the Club,” she said.

With a years’ worth of placement experience under her belt, and now her role with the VFLW team, Isabelle is well on her way to her dream role in sport.

“My dream job is to be a development coach specialising in mental health. Mental health is something that a lot of people tend to forget about in elite sport, and it’s so important that players are getting support.”
