THROW YOURSELF INTO IN WITH ELISE DOBSON
Elise Dobson always had a passion for sport but was not sure the best way to turn that passion into a viable profession.
Thankfully, a year at Carlton College of Sport (CCoS) helped to crystallise what a rewarding career in the industry could look like.
A graduate of the Diploma of Elite Sport Business at CCoS in 2022, Elise loved her time at the College; always keen to throw herself into every opportunity the Diploma offered.
“The best part about my time at the College was the opportunity to complete placements across all aspects of a high-performing club,” she recalls. “I was keen to make sure I said yes to every opportunity – but I particularly loved working with the Events team.”
That positive attitude led to Elise being offered a graduate role at the Carlton Football Club , following her graduation, as an Events Assistant. A moment that made her particularly proud, Elise felt it to be the culmination of a lot of hard work, and the realisation of a dream to work in sport.
“I enrolled at the College with the goal of getting a graduate role, and hopefully becoming a permanent employee,” she says. “I am really happy to say that is what I have been able to achieve.”
Keen to make it count in her new role, Elise always sought advice, as well as opportunities to learn and expand her skillset. Ultimately, her work ethic and bourgeoning knowledge of the industry saw her promoted to Events Coordinator.
A role she loves, Elise is now responsible for running events on match days, as well as developing eDMs to guests, and managing RSVP’s and seating plans for large functions.
“Ultimately, working in events in sport is exactly what I wanted to do,” she explains. “I want to keep doing it and becoming a manager in this niche is my main goal and what I want to do with my career.”
Delighted to have found herself in a role so well-suited to her, Elise believes the opportunity exists for anyone who wants to work in sport.
“It is important to work hard and follow a path that leads you to where you ultimately want to get to,” she says. “I really recommend the Carlton College of Sport for the unique opportunities it presents.”
“Above all though, the most important thing is to work hard, put your best foot forward in everything you do, and always be on the lookout for an opportunity and be willing to say yes when it presents.”
