Leigh's Career in Sport: A Journey of Passion and Dedication
Leigh’s journey into sport has been marked by dedication and a commitment to putting himself out there whilst also accepting the opportunities presented to him.
Leigh is currently the Netball Operations Manager at the Melbourne Mavericks in the Suncorp Super Netball League, a role in which he is thriving. His main duties include managing the operations of the high-performance program, which encompasses coordinating training schedules, overseeing player welfare, ensuring logistical arrangements for matches and training camps and maintaining communication between coaching staff and players. This role also involves traveling with the team to various locations for competitions and events, ensuring that all operational aspects run smoothly and efficiently.
Looking ahead, Leigh plans to study a Masters of High-Performance Sport in 2025 to continue to grow and develop his career with a view to becoming a High-Performance Manager for a professional sport organisation.
Leigh says he is fortunate to work for the Sports Entertainment Network (SEN), which owns the Melbourne Mavericks and other professional sport teams including the Bendigo Spirit, Otago Nuggets and the Southern Hoiho. He feels that he is in a really good position within SEN to continue to develop as a professional and utilise the many pathways it has.
His advice for those looking to break into the sport industry is to take every opportunity, talk to everyone and be specific about their intentions. He emphasizes the importance of being proactive, building a strong network and clearly communicating your career goals to make the most of every chance that comes your way.
