AFTER A YEAR of online classes and virtual placements for students in 2020, our new group of students have finally joined us on campus at the Carlton College of Sport.

With two weeks of classes now complete, students have had the time to settle into the rhythm of life at Carlton College, based at Ikon Park, and explore the La Trobe University Bundoora campus.

Students have jumped headfirst into the start of Semester 1, with many students already involved in placements within the Carlton Football Club and the Northern Knights.

Semester 1 placements so far have included working on game day at the Carlton v Geelong AFLW game at Ikon Park, assisting the Carlton Membership team in member acquisition, assisting coaches at the Carlton VFL, VFLW and Northern Knights training sessions and working in the Football Development Program.

Our guest lecture series, running every second Thursday during Semester, kicked off with a presentation from the Carlton Football Club CEO Cain Liddle. No questions were off limits for students, who asked about everything from his time playing AFL to the most valuable lesson he’s learnt as a CEO.

Classes for students studying the Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development have begun with subjects in Sports Management, Foundations of Exercise Programming, Physical Activity & Health and General Principles of Sport Coaching. In addition to their academic subjects, students are also participating in practical Strength & Conditioning classes with Carlton AFLW S+C Coach Steve Moore.

Students studying Elite Sport Business have also started their subjects in Sports Management, Marketing Fundamentals, Disruption in Business and Sport Policy.

There are plenty of exciting placements coming up for students, including half-time activations with AUSKICK at AFLW and AFL games, media monitoring with the Carlton Football Club media team as well as coding and analysis with the Recruitment team.

We’re looking forward to a fantastic year with our students in 2021!
