OFF the back of a very impressive first season as a graduate from the Carlton College of Sport,  Naomi Alipan reflects on her time within the College and how that decision paved her entry into full-time work.

What is your current role and what does it typically involve?

My role includes managing all the admin tasks within the Carlton Shop. This can include emails, phone calls, processing returns, as well as leading our casual team through their day-to-day tasks. My role also includes creating and uploading new products into our system, assisting with our Auction site, running our merchandise outlets on Game days, and organising store transfers through our warehouse.

How did the Carlton College of Sport prepare you for this role/full time work?

The Carlton College of Sport prepared me for my role by having lots of different placement opportunities around the Club. Having the ability to learn the day-to-day tasks of different jobs while on placement, made me prepared to take on my job as a full-time role.

What was the most important aspect/skill you learnt at the college?

The most important skill I learnt at the college was how to network. Meeting lots of different people in different areas around the club – it made you step out of your comfort zone and connect with people in the industry.

What is the best advice you can give to current students or people wanting to begin a career in sport?

The best advice I have for someone wanting to work in the sporting industry is to network and take every opportunity given to you. Make those connections and try everything thrown at you.

What were you doing prior to studying at the Carlton College of Sport and why did you decide to study with us?

Prior to studying at the Carlton College of Sport I was completing year 12. I always wanted to work in the sporting industry but wasn’t sure on an exact job I wanted. Which is why CCoS was perfect because you get a taste of every department within the Club and get to see which areas you enjoy working in.
