With Semester 1 just around the corner, it’s time to find out what you can expect when you study at the Carlton College of Sport!

 

What is offered at the Carlton College of Sport?

The Carlton College of Sport is the perfect mixture of education and industry orientated learning. The program offers two great courses, the Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development and the Diploma of Elite Sport Business.

Both courses provide students with the skills they need to enter the sporting industry, as well as receiving their higher education diploma for entry into the second year of a bachelor’s degree.

The Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development will also ensure that students receive their Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness, to kickstart their careers in the sporting fitness industry.

 

Co-curricular opportunities

Students will balance their time with the support of the Carlton College of Sport team between their studies and the extra-curricular program.

Students can choose to participate in either the Football Development Program or complete 100-hours of placement in various departments within the Carlton Football Club.

 

Placement program

Students will get to experience life working in sport with placement opportunities within the Carlton Football Club and with our placement partners, including the Northern Knights, AFL Victoria, South East Melbourne Phoenix and more.

Students studying the Diploma of Elite Sport Business Placement will gain industry experience within corporate settings in sport, with placements across Membership, Media, Marketing, Partnerships and Events.

The students in the Diploma of Sport Coaching and Development will work closely within coaching, strength and conditioning and football operations, learning the processes of life on field.

Every student studying at Carlton College will have the opportunity to work on game day at the MCG and Marvel stadium in Fan Engagement as well as the half-time AUSKICK activation. Students will also have placements across media, coaching and venue operations at AFLW, VFL and VFLW game days.

These placement opportunities allow students to branch out and connect with professionals in the sports industry, helping to build their professional network and kickstart their career in sport.


 

Football Development Program

The Football Development Program is a program developed by AFL coaches that is designed for developing football players to work alongside some of the best AFL and AFLW coaches and players at the Carlton Football Club.

Training twice per week at Carlton’s home of football, IKON Park, students will get participate in a holistic football program that is designed to develop both the player and the person. Students will undertake many skillset activities to improve their football, including strength and conditioning sessions, skill-work sessions and independent development programs developed by the coaches.

 

Guest Lectures and Industry Seminars

All Carlton College of Sport students will attend guest lectures throughout the year to hear from professionals in the sports industry. Speakers range from high-profile guests such as Player Manager Alex Saundry and comedian Andy Lee as well as staff from the Carlton Football Club.

The Industry Seminar series is offered to students studying the Diploma of Elite Sport Business. These sessions offer students practical learning about the industry, which also gives students the opportunity to meet and connect with professionals in the sporting sector.
